My aF4 Appears to Be LeakingUpdated a month ago
If you notice water pooling around the base of your aF4, don't panic — in most cases this is not a leak at all. The most common cause is an overflowing condensation drain drawer, which is a normal part of how the aF4's cooling system works.
This guide will help you identify the cause and resolve it quickly.
Step 1 — Check the condensation drawer first
The aF4's cooling system naturally produces condensation during operation, just like a cold drink on a warm day. This condensation is collected in a small drawer located on the base plate of the unit, on the same side as the intake and output tubes.
To check the drawer:
- Power off the aF4 and unplug it from the wall
- Locate the condensation drawer on the base plate — it is on the side of the unit where the intake and output tubes are positioned
- Carefully slide the drawer open and inspect it
If the drawer is full or overflowing — this is your cause. Empty the drawer, dry the area around the base, and you're done. No further action is needed beyond adding a regular emptying routine going forward.
How often to empty the drawer
Under normal operating conditions, empty the condensation drawer every 14 days.
However, certain conditions can cause the drawer to fill much faster — sometimes creating what looks like a significant leak in a short period of time:
- High humidity environments — rooms with naturally high humidity produce more condensation on the cold surfaces of the unit
- Colder temperature settings — the lower the temperature setting, the greater the temperature difference between the unit and the surrounding air, which increases condensation
- Warm ambient room temperature — a warm room combined with a cold temperature setting is the most common "perfect storm" combination
If you are in a humid environment or running a cold temperature setting, check and empty the drawer more frequently — every 7 days or sooner.
Step 2 — If the drawer is empty or the water appears elsewhere
If you open the condensation drawer and it is empty — or if the water appears to be seeping through the housing itself rather than from the base — this indicates a different type of leak.
Water seeping through the housing and around the base plate is more likely to indicate an issue with the solenoid assembly or pump. This is not something that can be resolved by the user and will require warranty assessment.
Submit a support ticket and include the following:
- A description of where exactly the water is appearing
- Whether the condensation drawer was empty when you checked
- Your serial number (sticker on the underside of the aF4)
- Your order number or proof of purchase
Our team will diagnose the issue and advise on next steps.
